Xpander Patches

main  |  inside  |  patches

Most of the pathches presented here are patches that can be found on several sites on the Internet. However these are in almost all cases only full banks that overwrites all patches that you might have in your Xpander. Not very handy.
The archives you can download here contains not only the full bank file but i have also exported every single patch into its own dedicated file. Very useful.

All patches downloadable here are in raw sysex format and i have tested them with an Xpander (latest OS) and the Macintosh (OS9) freeware SysEx (a very simple MIDI data transfer app). I had a Mac (OS9) running OMS and an Opcode Studio 3 MIDI interface when i wrote the manual. Maybe MIDI-OX for Windows works too, but i haven't tried it. For Mac OS X there is the SysEx Librarian.

- Xpander factory patches (Factory patches 1)
- Matrix-12 factory patches (Factory patches 2)
- Andrew Sanchez patches
- Arthur Springer patches
- Jim Johnson patches
- Peter Urbanek patches
- XevenT patches (aka LX Rudis patches)

A short primer on how to get the patches into your synth.

This primer assumes that you are using the SysEx application for Mac.

Make sure that you have a working MIDI connection from your computer to the Xpander. Route your midi keyboard through your computers MIDI interface and OMS. Turn on MIDI echo in the SysEx app and make sure it has desktop focus. Play some notes on the keyboard to see that you have MIDI contact between the SysEx application and the Xpander.
In the Xpander, go to MASTER->MIDI->ENABLES make sure that only SYSTEMX and CONTROL are underlined. Then go to MASTER->MIDI->SEND, turn the destination knob "below" zero, it will say "ALL" meaning that you are about to transfer all your patches. Set SysEx in recieving mode (apple-r) and press START on your Xpander. Make sure that SysEx recieves about 60000 bytes of data and save the file as "MyPatches" or something (single patches are about 400 bytes large). If you don't recieve anything or very little you need to check your MIDI setup, OMS is a good place to start.

Now you know that MIDI and your Xpander is configured properly and you have a full backup of your patches!

Patches are transmitted by loading them into SysEx and pressing "Transmit". Single patches or full patch banks, it is as simple as that. But it is a few things that can be good to know if you are doing this for the first time. When you have uploaded a bank you need to switch patch to see it because the current patch that you are viewing are in the RAM memory of the Xpander. When you upload a single patch it will be automatically stored on patch 99 (this is because i have saved all of them with destination 99) so make sure that you copy the patch elsewhere on your synth so that you don't overwrite it with the next patch. The same applies for singles as for banks if you are viewing patch 99 and transmits a single patch (with destination 99) you won't see it unless you switch patches (just press + & - and you're there).

Remember that when you upload a patch library you will effectively wipe out all patches previously stored in your Xpander! So make sure that you did the backup described earlier before you start. You can test the backup file by changing a name of a patch (and storing it) after you exported the backup and then importing the backup into your Xpander again. If the changed name is undone you can assume that the backup is fine.

Good luck!
