Buffer
An buffer is an amplifier which has either voltage or current gain of 1. The voltage buffers is the most common one. Buffer stages are in common use to give isolation between various stages. Especially higher (or variable) impedance sources which would otherwise look into a low impedance target cursuit. In this sence is buffers used to convert a signal from one impedance to another impedance, eg. being an active impedance converter.
